Welcome to The Camborne Contemporary Craft Hub

Writer: Create CICCreate CIC

Welcome to our first newsletter. It's been an exciting few months for us here at Create CIC. We have been working with Camborne Town Deal to develop plans for the Camborne Contemporary Crafts Hub and in March we moved into the Donald Thomas Centre in the first step to making this dream a reality.

If you know anyone you think might be interested in the work we're doing here, events and activities we're putting on, and equipment we have, please do forward this email to them.

Camborne Town Deal funding announced!

On 8 June the Government announced that Camborne has been successful in its bid for Town Deal funding, which means that money will be made available to transform the Donald Thomas Centre into a state of the art contemporary crafts facility for the people of Camborne and across Cornwall.

Create CIC has also been successful in our bid for a grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund to do a viability study around the building, including surveys, architectural proposals and audience consultation. If you would like to be involved in this please do get in touch.

Kiln delivery!

Early one wet morning in May the kilns that have been donated by Falmouth University were delivered to the Camborne Contemporary Crafts Hub. Thanks to the amazing work of Andrew Harbert of Falmouth University and the guys from Acland Plant Hire this large scale equipment, which is not available anywhere else in Cornwall, is now in situ in Camborne, just waiting for the renovation works to get underway to bring them back into use.

Workshops!

Thank you to everyone who came to our first two FREE taster workshops. The feedback we have had has been amazing and we've loved seeing photos of your light catchers and engraved glasses in use. Please do continue to share them with us either by email or on social media.

We have two more days of workshops coming up in this series:

Saturday 19 June Enamelling: come and make your own key ring or pendant. Sessions at 10:00, 12:00, 14:30 and 16:30. Contact us to reserve your place or turn up on the day, but spaces are limited so book to avoid disappointment.

Saturday 3 July Mosaics: come and make your own name plate or house number. Sessions at 10:00, 12:00, 14:30 and 16:30. Contact us to reserve your place or turn up on the day, but spaces are limited so book to avoid disappointment. Thanks to Camborne Town Council for supporting these workshops.

Pot in a Box!

We have some funding from FEAST Cornwall to give FREE pottery boxes to one hundred families in Camborne. The boxes contain all you need to make your own pinch pot at home, including self hardening clay, tools and instructions.

Contact us now to reserve your FREE box!
